Scientific basis
Lactic acid is the earliest acid used to brighten and maintain youthful skin. Queen Cleopatra and aristocrats at that time used fresh milk to keep skin smooth and younger than their age.
Lactic Acid could break the intercellular bridge between the keratinocytes, making the dead ones easier to peel off. At the same time, because Lactic Acid has a larger molecular structure than Glycolic, it is gentler to the skin.
Lactic Acid has a stronger skin lightening ability than Glycolic Acid, thanks to its ability to inhibit the enzyme Tyrosinase, which reduces the production of Melanin.
Many studies also show that Lactic Acid better retains moisture on the skin than both Urea and Ceramide (2 available natural moisturizing agents on the skin).
